America's New Scapegoats

This story isn’t new, indeed it’s  over a millennium old, dating back to the crusades.  Yet, I’ve been struck over the past few days by the depth and breadth of racial hatred directed at Muslim-Americans and Arab-Americans.  Perhaps it was watching Isaac and Ishmael last night (yay for my parents’ Netflilxs subscription and my struggling social life).  Perhaps it was this story of a Muslim family who was kicked off a plane for… well… mostly for being Muslim.  Most likely, it was the vitriolic comments on the Detroit Free Press articles about Hamas, Palestine, the would-be flyers.  Many were rapidly deleted as hate speech, but the ones that were gentle enough to remain can be seen if you (more…)
