Douche of the Day

Sorry Eric Cantor – your run couldn’t last. Not with the epic douchebaggery of Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama. For those of you who don’t remember him, he was one of the Senators who promised to filibuster the auto bailout because the government shouldn’t be picking winners and losers in the marketplace (and also leaked confidential information.) But it turns out (the apltly named) Dick doesn’t have so much of a problem with picking winners and losers after all – so long as Alabama (already a huge leach on the federal budget) wins and Michigan loses. With $114 million in earmarks, he ranks second in the Senate in pork-barrel spending. Hypocrisy — the worst kind of douchebaggery.

Douche of the Day | Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY)

[It's] bad cancer. The kind that you don’t get better from. Even though she was operated on, usually, nine months is the longest that anybody would live after [being diagnosed] with pancreatic cancer.
- Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) on Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Douche of the Day
Yes, it makes its triumphant return with one of the most deserving winners the illustrious award has ever had. Today’s world-class douchebag is Alabama Senator, leaker-of-classified-information, Democrat-turned-Republican and hypocritical prick, Richard Shelby. You may remember Senator Shelby as the one who killed the bridge-loan to automakers. I gave him the benefit of the doubt at first. Perhaps he didn’t understand the concept of a “loan” or perhaps he forgot that the government will be on the hook for $150 billion in welfare and unemployment payments without a loan to automakers. Perhaps he was simply blinded by adherence to the concept of the free market as an end rather than a means. However, we now learn that Sen. Shelby really has no problem with what he derisively called the “French model” of “government subsidies for manufacturing” (more…)
