Mark Chou's Take: Obama's Groupies

It’s late, and I’m too excited for the Inauguration to go to bed. So, I’m doing some random web-surfing. I stumbled across this cool gallery from The New York Times Magazine. Check it out here. The authors put together a photo album of people that will be important throughout Obama’s presidency ranging from special advisers to his social secretary (yes, that position does exist. And, yes, that would be an amazing gig). One person I find to be awesome for several reasons is Eugene Kang (pictured above). His official title is “Special Assistant to the President.” What that means, I have no idea. But does it really matter? Heck no! He’s an Assistant to the President of the United States. I will steal a quote from “The Devil Wears Prada” here (a total guy no-no): “You know, a million guys (I replaced girls with ‘guys’ for many reasons) would kill for your job.” The best part about him? He went to the University of Michigan. Also, he ran for city council right here in Ann Arbor. OH…AND….he’s Asian. Yay! Represent, Eugene. One more person on Mark Chou’s List of Most Fascinating People of 2009 (stolen from Barbara Walters–another total guy no-no) is Jon Favreau. He’s only 27 yet will serve as Obama’s Director of Speechwriting. How awesome is that? He’s the guy that wrote the spectacular speech Obama delivered at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. He enforces Barack’s belief that young people can make a difference and truly are the future. Now we just need to find a way to get Hannah Montana in there. I say as Director of Deception. That position will soon be vacated anyway.
