Douche of the Day

Yes, it makes its triumphant return with one of the most deserving winners the illustrious award has ever had.  Today’s world-class douchebag is Alabama Senator, leaker-of-classified-information, Democrat-turned-Republican and hypocritical prick, Richard Shelby.  You may remember Senator Shelby as the one who killed the bridge-loan to automakers.  I gave him the benefit of the doubt at first.  Perhaps he didn’t understand the concept of a “loan” or perhaps he forgot that the government will be on the hook for $150 billion in welfare and unemployment payments without a loan to automakers.  Perhaps he was simply blinded by adherence to the concept of the free market as an end rather than a means.  However, we now learn that Sen. Shelby really has no problem with what he derisively called the “French model” of “government subsidies for manufacturing” (more…)

Guns and the hypocrisy of the judical right

E.J. Dionne Jr. wrote a great column about yesterday’s Supreme Court decision striking down D.C.’s gun regulations which I have already seen in the Washington Post, the New Republic and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. It was one of two asinine decisions handed down yesterday by our conservative Supreme Court:

“The court’s five most conservative members have demonstrated that for all of Justice Antonin Scalia’s talk about ‘originalism’ as a coherent constitutional doctrine, those on the judicial right regularly succumb to the temptation to legislate from the bench. They fall in line behind whatever fashions political conservatism is promoting.

“Conservative justices claim that they defer to local authority. Not in this case. They insist that political questions should be decided by elected officials. Not in this case. They argue that they pay careful attention to the precise words of the Constitution. Not in this case.” Read More>

So if it's Gay Rape is it Still OK?

The military recruited significantly more felons in 2007 than it did in 2006 under pressure to meet the needs imposed by Iraq and Afghanistan. At a time when it remains illegal for gays and lesbians to openly serve in the military under the justification that they might undermine morale, the military recruited nine sex-criminals. So let’s review the military’s rules on sexuality: rape – good, consensual homosexual sex – bad, lying about consensual homosexual sex – good.
