Douche of the Day

Sorry Eric Cantor – your run couldn’t last. Not with the epic douchebaggery of Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama. For those of you who don’t remember him, he was one of the Senators who promised to filibuster the auto bailout because the government shouldn’t be picking winners and losers in the marketplace (and also leaked confidential information.) But it turns out (the apltly named) Dick doesn’t have so much of a problem with picking winners and losers after all – so long as Alabama (already a huge leach on the federal budget) wins and Michigan loses. With $114 million in earmarks, he ranks second in the Senate in pork-barrel spending. Hypocrisy — the worst kind of douchebaggery.

Take from the poor and give to the rich
I couldn’t help but chuckle when Congress sent a version of the farm bill to the President which was missing 34 pages. But the screw-up raises a serious issue. How big of a clusterfuck is this bill, if the entire federal government can work with it for days without noticing it’s missing 34 pages? I’m sure that no-one read the bill (now law) in it’s entirety, but I’d have expected at least one person in all of Washington to know how many pages it is. (more…)
