In order to gather information about the candidates, we sent them e-mails inviting them to respond about various topics. This is the response given by Mike Nikitin.
1. Voting Rights: Michigan voting laws place unnecessary burdens on college students because they require that you re-register to vote each time you change residence, and they also make absentee voting extremely difficult for first-time voters. A significant number of students have been disenfranchised for these reasons, contributing to the marginalization of students by government because they "don't vote." We want to maker sure students take part in the political process. How have you supported student enfranchisement in the past, and if elected, what will you do to make voting more accessible to students?
1. It is the right of the citizen to vote. It is the responsibility of that citizen to exercise it.
Let's cut thru the bull. The reason you want students voting is because they are still in the liberal world of academia and still being indocrinated with liberal / Democrat lies.
All of this hocus-pocus is designed to get more of the 'ignorant' vote which universally votes Democrat. It also is a breeding ground for voter corruption - yet another staple of the Democrat Party.
I would do nothing to make voting 'more accessible' to students. Liberals already have every advantage (schools, media, government, unions). The fact liberals lose any election at all is a testament to how communist the Democrat platform is.
2. Education/Student Finances: Michigan schools, K-12 as well as public higher education institutions, are under funded, and Michigan is ranked as the worst state for funding higher education in the country. How have you supported education in the past, in terms of state/federal funding, loans, scholarships and grants, and making higher education affordable and attainable for all students, and how will you do so if elected? Please be specific.
2. Federal funding for schools - any school, is unconstitutional. College students should know that - and if liberals were not running the school systems, they would. As for funding - the United States already spends over twice what the #1 nation in the world (Japan) spends on education for K-12. And our children finish 16th! The problem is not money. The problem is poor teachers, worse lesson plans and the fact that most of the money is now paying for teacher and administrator healthcare and pensions.
The golden goose is dead and it is time for cuts at the level where the problem lies - teachers and administrators.
As for college, it is the biggest consumer rip off in the nation. Tuition keeps rising and our graduates get dumber. There is not another industry that can match "BIG COLLEGE" for raising prices.
3. Diversity/Affirmative Action: In 2006, Proposal 2 banned the use of affirmative action by public institutions in Michigan. Diversity is a crucial part of the University of Michigan experience. How have you supported diversity in public institutions in the past, and if elected, what will you do to ensure continued diversity in the future?
3. Discrimination is wrong. Reverse discrimination is wrong. Visitors are here for the diversity. Americans, true Americans, are diverse enough. Multiculturalism, which is really the goal of the question, will end this nation.
4. Health Care: During college and just after graduation, health insurance becomes a major issue of concern for many young adults who are no longer covered by their parents' plans and may not be able to afford it themselves. As a result, 18-24 year-olds account for one-third of the uninsured U.S. population. What have you done to promote access to health care in the past, and how will you do so in the future, in general and especially for the student population?
4. It is not the taxpayers responsibility for the cost of health care. It is unconstitutional for government to do it, and it is actually a socialist/communist concept. Any true American would be against it.
5. Cost of Contraceptives: As a result of the Deficit Reduction Act, costs of contraceptives have seen an enormous price hike. This significantly impacts the college-aged population, and deters them from being proactive in their reproductive health care. What are your concerns with regards to providing access to affordable contraceptives, and what do you support as a solution to make sure college-aged people are protected? (should we add in abortion? should this fall under health care?)
5. It would be unconstitutional for the taxpayers to support college students having sex. Has anyone at U of M read the Constitution?
Abortion is murder. Everyone knows that. Liberals just want to allow it.
6. Miscellaneous: This could include anything to do with file sharing, drinking age/MIPs/drug policy (punishments), creating jobs in Michigan, abortion etc.
6. It would be unconstitutional for the taxpayers to support any type of 'job' creation. Has anyone at U of M read the Constitution?
Simply lower taxes and businesses will return - along with the jobs. It is called capitalism and it works every time it is tried.
